About Media Literacy Summit for Youth
Event Overview:
The Media Literacy Summit for Youth is a pivotal five-day event designed to empower young people with critical media literacy skills. Scheduled to take place in Ankara from 18-23 July 2023, the summit aims to enhance the ability of youth to accurately read, analyze, and critically engage with media and communication messages.
Objective:
Our primary goal is to equip participants, particularly university students aged 18-25 from across Turkey, with the tools and knowledge to discern factual information from misinformation and to understand the influential role of media in society. Through this summit, participants will learn to critically assess media content and recognize the difference between reality and fiction.
Target Audience:
50 university students between the ages of 18-25, selected through an open call, will constitute the target group for this activity. These young individuals will represent a diverse cross-section of Turkey's academic community.
Expected Outcomes:
The summit is designed to significantly enhance media literacy among youth, fostering a better understanding of the media’s guiding and managing functions. Participants will develop the ability to critically interpret media messages, change their attitudes towards media content, and become more conscious, analytical media consumers. The event will also bolster teamwork, self-confidence, and responsibility skills, as well as broaden perspectives on cultural diversity. The knowledge and experiences gained will contribute to a noticeable increase in the number of media-literate individuals locally, regionally, and nationally.
